My bet is that if there will be one Kenyan radio station that will not disappoint today, it will certainly be KBC English Service. I cannot afford to miss sundowner request edition that will be streered by the legendary broadcaster, Caroline Ndonye.
Today is International Women's Day

Picture this, during the weekend you have a perfect plan to treat your mum for this year's International Women Day. "This is the day that this special woman in my life will know that she is truly loved and appreciated," you think to yourself as you window shop for the perfect surprise gift for her.
As with all plans, on 8/03/2023, your car fails to start at the eleventh hour. Good gracious, how could it? For years, you had forgotten the inconvenience that defines our beloved public transport. You take a deep breath and hop into a mathree. With an open mind you detach yourself like a monk from the loud music, the rude tout, the careless driving and the frequent stopovers.
You arrive late at your workplace and your boss gives you a cold, disbelieving stare and starts to avoid you for the better part of the morning. You are on an acting capacity on a junior executive position and the way things look now, it is like you are screwing things up. Now, you have missed an important meeting with your juniors and they all seem to be avoiding you today.
The day rushes by and as you lazily notice your phone for the first time as the evening mathree fills up, it finally hits you that it is mother's day when you see an unread mother's day message from your spouse and daughter. Those ones can be taken care of much later but with tears rolling down your face, you just call your mother with an unsteady voice and just keep talking and crying.
On the other end, she just listens to you patiently and comforts you while you fumble with, "I am okay mum... You know I love you so much?".
The surprise is over, the plans are all ruined. "But an mpesa message will make it up for everything; she can buy anything she wants to buy," you imagine. And although she calls back and thanks you for the cash, she is a bit concerned because it is too much and she does not need that much anyway. Now all she wants is to see you and her grandchildren on weekend. Without a second thought, it becomes your weekend plan to just see your mother. Because that's what matters more than a happy International Women's Day.
My bet is that if there will be one Kenyan radio station that will not disappoint today, it will certainly be KBC's English Service. I cannot afford to miss today's wacky Wednesday's sundowner request edition that will be streered by the legendary broadcaster, Catherine Ndonye. It will certainly be lit.
Nonetheless, this coming Sunday you can spoil your beloved ones to a brunch at About Thyme hotel that is situated along Eldama Ravine road, Brew Bistrol, Hemingways and the legendary Villa Rosa Kempinsky hotel.
And from our humble house to yours, we wish you an amazing international Women's Day wherever you are.
